40 Years Later: How our decisions play out…

Planning a wedding is time consuming, expensive and can be a bit overwhelming. Specifically when it comes to the question of photography, there are a TON of choices. It is easy to think, “Oh, I’ll design that album myself”, “I’ll just get my digital negatives”, or “we’ll never look at that anyway”…

This weekend my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. As my mom and I were talking about it and working on plans for my upcoming wedding, she said, “Oh, how I wish we had gotten more from our wedding photographer.” And she pulled out a falling apart book of 48 (2 rolls of film) 3×5 proofs.  And that was it. No negatives, no albums, no enlargements.  Although there weren’t many photos by today’s standards- each one was magical to me. They included photos of my grandparents who are no longer with us, of my dad’s brother, who also recently passed away.  They gave me a glimpse into the start of my parents’ magical marriage that started 40 years ago!

This experience has only reinforced my belief that one of the most important services I offer my clients is to create finished products. Albums, archival quality mounted prints and stories professionally told. I believe that an album should be an integral part of each couple’s experience. You  wouldn’t go to the best chef in town and ask for his ingredients… by getting the finished product you are able to have the full experience. In the long run, this will be an investment that generations to come will treasure.

As a gift to my parents, I have scanned and retouched the images from their day into a beautiful album.
