I don’t consider myself much of a wildlife photographer, however, there are some opportunities you just can’t pass up. When your neighbors call in the middle of dinner and say you need to come check out the big bull moose in their yard, you leave your dinner on your plate and go check it out. Needless to say, we weren’t disappointed. He was definitely more interested in eating their garden than he was in all of us gathered in the yard gawking at him. However, there was a moment when I was looking through my lens and thought, “I am way too close to this thing”….
This is an awesome, awesome photo and was not captured without great bodily risk to the photographer, the intrepid Lisa McKendry. I had the privilege of watching her (from the secure elevated deck) crouching and belly crawling through the wet grass and willows to photograph this big guy. There was a time when he seemed to think he was a professional model, but I would never have trusted him as Lisa did. Bill and Sandy were so generous to invite us all to their beautiful home–and we are not sure who the chocolate chip cookies were originally intended for–but they were a perfect moose/Lisa-watching treat!
What a fun night and experience. This moose (Frits, as Bill has named him) could have cared less that we all were making such a fuss over him. And those cookies were baked just for you all! Thanks for sharing this marvelous photo, Lisa.
I work with your Father In Law. I am an amateur photographer. I must say that this was an exceptional capture. The setting, natural lighting and depth of field blended perfectly to produce a “National Geographic” quality image. Well done!
LISA! This is the most incredible photo of a moose I have ever seen! And the most scenic too. It’s almost surreal!
